How private is wife's purse?

I needed a pen and looked in my wife's purse. I've never done that before and I was surprised at how much stuff was in there. Buried under everything else were two condoms. Since we don't use them I obviously need to talk to her. How will she react to the fact that I was looking in her purse? I'm just trying to prepare myself for a very unpleasant talk.
